A Young Woman Hits Rock Bottom, Overcomes Her Depression, Gets Alcohol Rehab for Her Abusive Drinking, and Augments Her Self Esteem
Posted by Tweeting RevolutionBrooke was a thirty-five-year-old accounts payable manager who was sick of feeling depressed on a daily basis and sick of her hazardous and abusive drinking behavior. In a word, she missed her old motivation for doing various things she enjoyed, she hated the hangovers she went through on a regular basis, she was sick of feeling tired every morning, she was irate with herself for spending her hard-earned money on a worthless habit, and she was tired of going through broken relationship after broken relationship due to her heavy drinking.
Additionally she despised the fact that she had to go to court for her third DWI, she was fed up with paying for alcohol-related lawyer fees, she was disgusted with how out-of-shape she was, she was bored with her drinking friends, and she was irritated with the many times she failed an alcohol test at her place of employment.
Above and beyond the visible alcohol-related health problems she was experiencing, almost certainly the most damaging part of her drinking regimen was the undependable and deceitful individual she had turned into. In her heart she knew that she had been dishonest about her drinking behavior to her friends, family, and relatives and she also knew she had been less than truthful with herself about the “healthy” effects of drinking. Not only this but she rationalized wolfing down two or three drinks before going to social events and she also made excuses for needing one or two drinks as soon as she got up so that she could cope with the “stress” at her job.
Her Depression and Her Irresponsible and Heavy Drinking Lead to Significant Changes in Her Life
Clearly that Brooke was sick of putting up with the negative effects of her depression and her careless and hazardous drinking and eventually made up her mind that something significant had to change in her life. So she determined that she would abstain from drinking, involve herself in some worthwhile hobbies, get professional counseling, start focusing on becoming a more healthy person, develop a new circle of friends, and start exercising.
Simply put, Brooke got to a key moment in her life during which she saw that she hit rock bottom and was now ready to begin the gradual and slow road to recovery.
One of the ways that Brooke put her “plan” into action was by asking for a transfer at her workplace. When her request was approved, she moved 350 miles away to a new city. If nothing else, this absolutely made making new friends and disconnecting herself from her old friends much easier. Then she contacted a healthcare practitioner in her new city and made an appointment for a complete physical exam.
Brooke Meets With a Healthcare Practitioner About Her Excessive and Hazardous Drinking and Her Depression
After meeting with the healthcare professional and going through a number of lab tests, it was determined that Brooke had made the unfortunate change from alcohol abuse to alcohol addiction and consequently was in need of alcohol detoxification and alcohol rehab. At this time, the healthcare professional made it a point to review the various signs of alcoholism, the symptoms of alcoholism, and information about long term alcohol effects with Brooke.
The doctor then told Brooke that it was determined that she was clinically depressed and in need of treatment for this medical issue.
Brooke Decides to Revitalize Her Body by Living an Alcohol-Free Lifestyle, Drinking Spring Water, Eating Nutritious Foods, Exercising, and Taking Vitamins
Due to her willingness to follow through with the therapy program, after three weeks of residential treatment, Brooke was ready to start therapy on an outpatient basis. At this point in time, she began working at her new job and over the weeks began revitalizing her body by exercising, drinking filtered water, eating healthy foods, living an alcohol-free way of life, and taking vitamins and minerals.
Brooke also addressed her spiritual life by joining the local Nazarene church and participating in the weekly services.
After around five months of outpatient therapy during which time she never went through a relapse, Brooke quit going to alcohol therapy and instead started going three times every week to local AA meetings. Going to these meetings helped Brooke continue her alcohol-free style of life, they provided her with the support she needed, and they served as a faithful reminder of the negative consequences that are linked to abusive drinking.
After going to AA meetings roughly three-and-a-half months Brooke felt that she was ready for a relationship and so she started dating Logan, a young gentleman she met at church. It clearly surprised Brooke how much more ready she was for a dating relationship now that she had her careless and abusive drinking under control. In actual fact it also astonished Brooke how much better life was now that she wasn’t under the control of her abusive and unhealthy drinking. Life was now pleasant and full of possibilities that she could have never hoped for or achieved when she was engaged in unhealthy and excessive drinking just a few short months ago.
A Success Story That is Proof of the Importance of Alcohol Rehab and the Power of Positive Thinking
Brooke’s success story is proof of the value of alcohol rehab and the power of positive thinking. As Brooke reflected on her newfound self-respect and drive for involving herself in healthy, worthwhile activities, she was actually grateful that she made up her mind to do something worth while about her abusive and careless drinking rather than giving into her depression and into the lure of her alcohol addiction. The result: her life now has a positive direction, she is in command of her life rather than letting herself languish under the control of her addiction, she has more energy now compared with any time in her adult life, she is involved in a caring relationship, and she likes her new job responsibilities.
